… I’ve actually come up with what I think is a particularly fantastic idea for a non-fiction book.
Of course, *I* think it’s fantastic because a) I came up with it, natch; b) it’s a book I wanted to buy as a gift for a friend, and amazingly someone hasn’t written it yet.
Are any of my readers in the business? Want to give me advice? I am hereby soliciting for some.
My gut instinct is to just write the thing and self-publish and then start looking for an agent to shop it to the big guys. I’d honestly love to be published by Chronicle Books – I believe they’d be the perfect fit for the content and I have a soft spot in my heart for them as they’re based in San Francisco where I’m from.
Anyone want to tell me I’m insane?
If you do have advice or information, or would like to know more about my idea (I’m not spilling the beans yet… have to protect that idea so it doesn’t get stolen!!) let me know.

I don’t know publishing stuff, but I think writing a book is a great idea.

I think you should go for it – the first draft is the hardest part so just do it. It may help to look at the “topics” page of wordpress and click on the “publishing” tag and that will show all the blogs on publishing in the last … weekish. It’s a good source to start. Also get on twitter and look at publishers expectations and things – they usually post things on twitters with little tips. Hope this helps!

Seriously, I think that’s an awesome thing, and you should definitely pursue it! I know nothing about publishing, or even about writing a book, but as a fellow lover of writing, it doesn’t get any better than coming up with a brilliant idea and running away with it (and getting famous and earning lots of money!!! LOL)
